Its a great place to watch some beautiful people but paying 12 bucks for a drink that comes in a plastic cup is not my style. The Delano is chic and classic and then you get a plastic cup?!? I don't think sooooooo. Turned me off. I've been there several time and the last two times I've gone I've gotten bad service.
I love this place because its the only high class joint in south beach where you can casually stroll in and not get stopped by a grease-haired midget with a velvet rope and list in hand.
Granted the drinks are expensive and Yes, the blue door serves average to 'blah' food but the atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect from south beach. Phillipe Starck designed such a cool place full of classic furniture mixed with a some tim burton-esque flair. it compliments all the beautiful people in it. It even makes the ugly people look better just by being there.
The music engulfs the entire area with smooth and organically soulful house music. With a classic smooth R&B tune here and there. The drinks, again, are expensive but they are done quite well. Ask the guys by the pool to make you a mudslide..mmm, mmm good!
Props to Ian Schrager for continuing the idealism of studio 54 without its' barbaric velvet rope.

This is one of the classic South Beach Hotels of our time. I enjoy coming here and shooting in all the cool breezy spaces and designer nooks and corners with my photography clients. For young people, this is a beautiful happening place to stay and enjoy the South Beach Scene. This is not the place to put your parents when they are visiting. Like most of South beach, the vibe at the Delano is geared towards the young, hip and sexy.

Heard it was a must. So we went to check it out. It was nice, however I guess when you are at a boutique hotel you shouldn't ask for good service. The bar area was okay.
It gets four stars cause we saw Lindsey Lohan-and I liked parent trap :)

Whether you plan to stay at this hotel or just want to swing by to hang out, this place is incredibly awesome! I love it! Their pool, decor, and overall feel is wonderful! :) It's very mod and makes for a great night on South Beach!

i never stay at the hotel.. this is simply based on the lounge...i could be writing under the wrong area... so what...here goes.... so great i don't have to grease the door guy $200 to get in...nice... an there's pretty people here...nice... and it defines the sexiness of south beach...dress sharp... its good on friday and saturday night they say tuesday is the best...but i gota job!
drinks are more expensive than a minimum hand of blackjack at the hard rock ($25 ) but that sobe.
The only hotel i have been escorted out of (with gal in tow). but they still get 5 stars. i wasnt rude, i wasn't crude, we just couldnt stop making out by that amazing pool that just melted like a waterfall off the sides.
Never saw her again as we went in our separate ways down the circular drive... A perfect night.
Can't wait to get ejected again.

Well...
I once loved this place (I am a decor fiend) - but they really are lacking in the customer service department and their hotness is starting to wane which is very sad. I have been a guest at the Delano and the Shore Club (sister properties) - and the Delano is not as crisp and fabulous as it once was. The Shore club was hipper, the people looked better, and the rooms were more spacious. I think the Delano has been living off its laurels and the praise of folks who are shiny and new to the scene. For those Gen Y and X ers who are looking for "the spot" - head to the Gansevoort or Shore Club...

This place is a Miami-Must. Phillippe Starck really at his best. Its so Alice in Wonderland meets Miami.
When you are walking in it feels like you are on the red carpet. Just walked through, on a cloud, all the way to the bar in the back, took in all the sights and sounds and things... Lovely. Took note of the bungalows by the pool - just delightful.
The Florida Room is on the left right after you come down the stairs outside. Missed out on this, but would have liked to check it out.

I remember sitting on the back terrace one March night last year. I sat with my 3 friends and roommates, 3 models, 2 cat fighty Ecuadorian girls, and 1 Maurice from Trash Bar singing a cappella karaoke with the Cuban Andy Warhol and his wife and their dog in a diamond studded collar which I'm pretty sure was on quaaludes. To my right was the hotel lobby, which looks like art deco meets the throne room from Jet Li's Hero meets Gatsby's mansion and has to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. To my left, the pool, the cabanas, the dj, the cabana bar and the on property beach and bonfire surrounded by suspiciously friendly and relaxed people in white linen pants who I'm fairly certain were all arms or drug dealers. I calmly ate my excellent cheeseburger and sipped a martini and thought to myself,
"Where the f**k AM I right now???"
But in a good way.
Great place to stay in the heart of Sobe! Everything is walking distance from here... I've some of the fondest memories at this place.... sigh..
Beautiful bellmen in white linen suits & tan skin :-) Gorgeous waitresses at Rose Bar in white linen skirt & baby tank top, you can't ask for more!
The room is spacious, all white reminds me of the Mondrian, another Ian Schrager's Hotel. Beautiful garden in the back blend in with cabanas to 1 of the nicest pools, if not the nicest in Sobe!

Excellent atmosphere! Drink, mingle and dance with the beautiful. Cabanas, bungalows by the pool make this outting very pleasant. Ladies, if youre into people watching then this is your spot. Quite a few women here have proposed the introduction of a one night stand thanks to the sexy ambiance and Patron shots....Mind you Ive never done a one night stand because what would women think of me? Im not easy.

Um, this review is more from sneaking into the hotel on New Year's Eve than actually staying in it - which never happened. Ahhh, the college years - where all behavior is acceptable.
After attempting to hop the fence at another shwanky spot (and quickly escorted out) my date and I decided to "act" as guests at the Delano. A bottle of tequila and many beers later, we entered the front door as if we owned the place.
As we made our way to the courtyard of the hotel, we stopped along the gorgeous pool. For new year's eve at the Delano, there weren't many people around. Where was everyone?
I asked my date if she was up for skinny dipping. She was, partially because it felt like we had the hotel to ourself and hey, it's New Year's!
Five minutes later, about 50 people in tuxedos and gowns begin to encircle the pool. We immediatly greeted them with drunken cheers and they (horrifyingly I'm sure) cheered and greeted us back.
Good times.

This is a five star venue with one star deducted for all the patrons. Who wants to hang out in heaven if it's filled with jerkheads. Fortunately I was rolling with Deepcuts and we played a mean game of laaarge chess while smoking Davidoff cigarellos.
See, that's a little something I call "style" people. That's how we's from SF roll. The sound in the beautifully manicured garden outside is fantastic, and the staff is attentive. Though the $14 goose n sodas were CRAZY expensive. Sorry baby, this is where I spent all my DJ money. But seriously, this is THE playground for us grownups. When the revolution comes, I'm claiming the hammock.
Oh well, next WMC I'll be charging Delano prices. WHAT WHAT.

New lounge in the Delano Hotel "The Florida Room" opened up 2 months ago and it's F-A-B-O-U-L-O-U-S! The people infomed us, when we were there last night, that unless you're a guest in the hotel, you will need reservation to come in. Once inside, it was uber miami-style trendy. Great music and expensive creative drink, try the house special, a raspberry star martini (muddle raspberries with vodka and something or other). The also have a full mojito bar with different flavor, fresh ingredient all on display. The crowd was a VERY posh and good looking crowd, all dressed in their finery. It was the seen and to be seen type of place. Glad I went to check it out. I was also proposed here last night by an ex pro baseball player (the gentlemen in south beach sure do wear their heart on their sleeves!), very adorable...

I stayed here a few years back for the WMC and booked a normal room. They over booked the hotel and had no choice but to put us up in a bungalo along the pool which normally go for about $2500/night. It was unreal - the lobby of this hotel alone is insane. We had our own butler to bring us whatever we needed to the bungalo.
The bungalo was 2 floors with an enormous solid marble bathtub and all the furniture was beyond top notch.
I love how they have tables in the shallow part of the pool so it looks as though you are sitting and eating on the water. This place is def not for the budget conscious.
4 1/4 Stars. 2 words: White & Breezy. These are the 2 words to describe this place. I love it! Very sexy. Great concept. First-class place, really. Another fine South Beach boutique hotel. Wish they had more of these in the rest of the country...
Sitting by the pool, sipping a cocktail, I felt like a 1940's movie star.
Ignore the yabbo's. And then close your eyes and relax.

I have stayed several times and I've never been let down yet once.
The food, ambience, and service are all amazing!
Way back in the day - like shortly after versace got killed we went to Miami in college. I was dating a really rich girl so she sprung for two nights at this kick ass hotel.
It was crazy. Soooper fancy - worth the money? No way. But it was amazing. Its def worth checking out the lobby. Its crazy.
I have nothing else to say.
A place for the FIERCE and FABULOUS. Had cocktails and bites. I'm sure they are delish but i'm 5-starring the ambiance and the place to be. Enter and you walk down this runway with white billowy curtains to the pool making you feel like you are part of something surreal. Minamalist chic with the color only seen with the beautiful people and the drinks they are holding. Must visit to see and be seen.

I can't say I've ever stayed at the hotel but I I always make sure I visit for drinks. When you walk in you feel like you're walking into Alice and Wonderland with the white curtains great music, fancy furniture. It's a long runway that leads to the outside pool area with the beds over looking water and the beautiful bar with fancy drinks. It's literally a paraside. If you're going to South Beach you can't miss this place, go for a drink!
With rooms starting around $1000 a night, the Delano was a bit out of our budget during our stay in Miami. But last Thursday night we enjoyed several hours in the lobby lounge/bar, having a few (overpriced) drinks and enjoying the people watching, the DJ, and the incredibly relaxed vibe.
You have to see it for yourself to truly understand the fantastic experience that is the Delano. The lobby turns into a lounge filled with large, comfy armchairs and sofas. Flowing white curtains break up the long space, and behind the building is an incredible patio restaurant and pool area...
They have opened a club in the basement - great furnishings, once again, but very loud music. Nothing against the music - but it just wasn't what we were in the mood for that night. So we stuck to the upstairs. The bar serves until 2:45 am.
Down by the pool there is an outdoor bar - great spot to enjoy the breeze off the ocean...lounge on one of the poolside beds.
Simply put - can not wait to return next time we are in South Beach!
This might be my favorite place in South Beach. The feeling you get when you step through the doors and walk through the billowy lobby is one of instant relaxation and calm. Everything feels fresh.
Then, you see it. The gorgeous courtyard lawn that leads to the pool and lounge area. I always get a feeling of Alice in Wonderland when looking at the lawn which holds a giant-sized chess board that you can actually walk into.
On a chilly evening, it's lovely to dip your feet into the heated pool and hang out with friends while sipping a yummy beverage.
I spent one night here and the place was awesome! The place was modern and very, very cool! The pricing was expensive, but it's worth it to treat yourself to some luxury. The service provided by the staff was surprisingly not bad. It's right on the beach and steps away from being on a real South Beach vacation. After spending some time at the AWFUL Mercury Resort, this was a fantastic way to end the trip.
I can't wait to go back!!!!
The Delano is a landmark in South Beach and is part of the Morgan Hotel Group with chic hotels with great bars and restaurants in other cities such as New York, LA, San Francisco, London, Arizona. This place was one the first chic hotels in South Beach. It has a very nice atmoshpere for lounging, relaxing, and having a good time. Anyone who has not gone to a Morgan Hotel is always impressed with the decor.
The combination of the dramatic white drapery at the entrance and walking though the lobby with good sushi at the Blue Sea, intimate Rose Bar. the unique dining area and outdoor terrace of Blue Door, entering in the Orchard areas grand steps where it takes you down to the luxurious infinite type pool, cabanas and out the beach bar area is something everyone must see. The new Florida room with the center piece piano is great to chill with a bottle of Champagne.
The crowd here is mix of young professionls, models, business types, sugar daddies, sugar mamas, many wantabes, couples, all just great eye candy. It is a place you bring someone you want to impress if they haven't been to South Beach.
Keep in mind you aren't going to the Four Seasons or the Ritz. This is all about the atmosphere and the night clubby feeling.
If you aren't staying at the hotel I suggest either walking, cabbbing or if you're driving to just find a on street parking space.
I should mention the hotel rooms are not the most luxurious but the common areas, pool and night life is what one comes here for. My five star rating is for the decor, atmosphere, pool, and night life and the great times I have here which is easily over sixty visits
I'm sitting in the dentist's chair. Drill whirring loudly in my ear, I clutch the arms of the chair. White knuckles. Panic ensues.
I. Need. My. Happy. Place.
Where is my happy place?!?
And immediately, magically--just in the nick of time--my mind drifts off to the Delano.
Yes, it's absolutely that wonderful.
And yes, my fear of the dentist really is that bad!

Really good service, really good staff. Given the high concept and pomp of Shrager hotels, everyone who works at the place is surprisingly down to earth and genuinely nice.
From the outside, it's really stunning. Whitewashed building with really cool ivy. I call it "happy deco," as opposed to the imposing art deco of other cities.
Dramatic design; typical Ian Shrager; baroque on acid. Weird misshapen and/or disproportioned decorations from days of yore. Lots and lots of flowing white drapes. Wide open airy spaces.
The pool area is the best. At night it's really trippy; crooked lamps and odd looking human-sized chessboards, very Alice in Wonderland.
There's a little mini Rose Bar that alludes to the Gramercy Park Hotel in NYC. The rooms are all white; starkly so. That may be a detraction; they're almost too white. Bad place for a migraine, suffice it to say.
But an amazing hotel. An excellent place to start and end the evening.

Although we've never actually stayed in one of the rooms, the decor and ambiance of just stepping foot into the lobby was crazy cool. The white flowing curtains, the funky sexy furniture, the lighting, made you feel like you were stepping into an adult fun sexy playground. Head outside to the pool area. The pool is an infinity pool, nicely heated with comfy lounge beds & private cabanas. These are hard to come by and $$$, so if you want one of these, have a big group of people so that it doesn't kick your wallet in the ass that much. They do have hotel personnel standing by to check your room card in order for you to use the pool, so be sure you have one, or you know someone who's staying there who's name you can drop! (that's what we did!!)
beautiful pool, beautiful people, pricey drinks. worth it if you want to go where it's hip to be seen!
Always a fun place to start night. The lobby is usually packed with hotties and the pool bar is too.

The Delano is famous for being beautiful and it sure did live up to expectations. The outdoor pool is AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL with cabanas that line the pool equipped with flat screen plasmas. Otherwise, lounge on the beds laid out alongside the pool or SIT in the pool on a unique wrought-iron cafe table and chair set up that is a very clever gimmick. Overall, the Delano is beautiful but, the people there are a bit older and touristy for my taste. I would go with my boyfriend to snuggle in on of the cabanas or a bunch of rowdy girlfriends to liven the place up but, don't go expecting to meet people.
From the Yelp reviews and other websites outlining the best of South Beach, I made it a point of visiting the famous Delano. My Miami Beach trip would not be complete without it.
Not what I expected for a hotel bar/lounge. Upon walking through the front door you are not greeted by the colonial or contemporary generic decor and seating typical of a hotel lobby. Oh no - you are greeted by what looks like a long corridor with dark wood floors, ambient lighting and rows upon rows of large white columns alternating with large white sheer fabric panels that blow with the wind that flows in from the front of the lobby to the back where the restaurant, lawn and pool are. As you walk through the lobby you find not only the hotel lobby tucked along the left side lime-green wall but random nooks and crannies where lounge seating and bar tables are scattered amongst the fully-stocked bar. Didn't get to fully enjoy the restaurant and pool, but they certainly looked nice.
A beautiful sight to see for hotel lounge as far as I've ever seen (though I haven't seen much). Next time I'm in the area I must definitely take the time to have a drink here.

The Delano is a local favorite watering hole for after work and it doesn't fail to impress when you stay for an evening. The ambiance and grounds are amazing (especially the pool side cabanas) but the outside bar staff aren't nearly as attentive some times as you'd expect from this fine a hotel. Like everything in Miami and NYC it's overpriced and pretty amazing. Bring your wallet and enjoy yourself.
It's been awhile since I've stayed at the Delano, but the few times I have I have had very good experiences. Good service, fantastic vibe, feels oh so Miami.
what a fun time... i love the delano.. reminds me of a world from the past, it's been some time since I've returned to my haunts in SoBe but decided it was about time to hit up my favorite spots and enjoy a little warm weather.
I love the long walkways and the never-ending pool. The cabanas for lounging back and sipping champagne and the warm tropical breeze against my skin.
The drinks are delightful, the staff friendly and the music as the day winds up is just right. I love the "it's a private party" atmosphere. If only the world knew how elite it could be....

Best of the former Schrager properties. Hey Mondrian LA management (yes, I know it is the same hotel group), maybe you should follow the act of your sister hotel and improve your service and update your rooms.
Delano even though older has flat panel TVs and ipod docking stations in the rooms (unlike the Mondrian LA with is old TVs, broken dishwasher and CD players....) is by far a more superior property.
Service was fantastic, ambiance inside and out is so relaxing......can't wait to see what the Mondrian Miami will have to offer.
If appreciating great design and not dressing like a tacky tourist make me pretentious, so be it. The Delano is my favorite of all the upscale hotels in which I've been fortunate enough to stay. This place is gorgeous, spacious, romantic, breezy, chic, sexy, comfortable, cozy, intoxicating, and really just perfect. The food at the Blue Door is fantastic, the pool is wonderful, the beach is lovely, and the staff are friendly and accommodating no matter who you are.
I love this hotel and think you will too.

Hotelier Ian Schrager(of Studio 54) and designer Philippe Starck have created a high-end hotel that's luxurious and a little surreal. The Delano's lobby has billowing, floor-to-ceiling curtains and whimsical furniture. The indoor-outdoor lobby is the focal point of the hotel. Guests flow through the space, with its many intimate seating areas, proceed to the garden, and then arrive at the showpiece pool, which has underwater classical music, lounge chairs, and private cabanas which I always reserve when I stay there!
Delano offers a variety of dining options. The Blue Door restaurant serves modern French cuisine with Brazilian and global influences.

For the nightclub, one of the most fabulous I've ever seen. From the minute you walk inside, the sheer fabric hanging from what seems like 100 feet up sets the mood and it's high class from there....but good gawd, come prepared! A single round of drinks will set you back a hundred bucks. eeks, that's steep!
